Hodel's Country Dining

It was alright. The only problem I have with it is that it doesn't have a lot of food choices. Other than that it is a great place to eat!

Great home cooking food. Lots of option. The quality on some things was questionable (fish was very fish, prime rib super over cooked) but for the price you can't beat it.

Great selection of salad's and fruits. Not so much of everything else. Reasonable.

We had a great Thanksgiving breakfast! They always go above and beyond to make us feel cozy! Remember to take extra special care of your server on Holidays they don't get Holiday pay!

Amazing food, great service what more do you want

Wow! I do love a buffet...and country cooking at that! I made a special trip here after seeing a story on the news that was filmed here. Definitely worth checking out. But wear comfy clothes...you’ll need a nap after all the good food!

The food was good, fresh, tasty. The wait staff and cashier's could use work on customer service skills. (Got the feeling it was a chore to take care of the customers.)

Service by John was incredible! The salad bar was great.

When I drive back & forth from Bay Area to Southern California, I always stop here for a "home cooked tasting buffet meal" in both directions past 30+ years. Family owned & operated 50+ years (1967 to 2017)! Please read my other honest reviews!

Food was delicious, we went for lunch and there lunch buffet had more than enough delicious food, very clean and just a great atmosphere, the price was reasonable and we definitely plan to go back real soon

I remember the days when Hodel’s was the go to place for good home cooked food. Not the case today. I’d have to say it’s just OK at best. The salad bar needs some work. You get a little bit of everything from other containers inside every container and most items are standing in about an inch of water. The staff seems a little demotivated as well. It’ll only take a little focus to get Hodels back to it’s glory days. I hope it happens. I’ll check back in another 5 years.

It was my second visit,but it was my wife's first time and it was AWESOME!!! We will definitely be coming back and we'll bring our family as well. Kudos to our waiter John who didn't miss a beat on our coffee and any other thing we needed.

My parents and I love to eat here. The food is good and the staff are welcoming. When it gets busy then it feels homely. A really good place to visit and eat.

I eat there all the time when passing thru the area. Always a Great Dining experience. I especially like the breakfast

Imagine you had a garden with all sorts of fresh vegetables and fruits. This self served venue is is that garden. Bacon so thick, you have to cut it with a steak knife. Omelettes made to order. Folks this is a vegetarian and meat eaters "Shangri-la." Did I mention their is a dessert bar full of eye-candy confections along with whipped cream and strawberries. Wait staff is attentive and prompt. Price point ($) to value is just plain unbelievable.

Awesome place to have something when in a hurry. The customer service is rapid, prices are reasonable, excellent mood. I highly recommend this spot.

Good food, decent prices, just wish there were more main course selections. With very few options they go fast. Got up 3 times for meatloaf and each time it was already gone. Other then that it's a nice environment.

Best buffet I had in a while. Walked in there with an iced pitcher of water waiting on table. Price was excellent. Service was excellent. Food was excellent.

This was a private event. The food was very good.They had 3 buffet lines setup serving from both sides. That made the lines move quickly and they kept the food replenished. My only complaint would be that the Women's Bathroom hadn't been cleaned or replenished. One stall was Out of Order and 2 stalls had No Toilet Paper, that left only 3 stalls to service all of the women that attended the dinner.

Best buffet in town! Better than the other chain buffet restaurants in town. Holdel's is pretty clean, good food, friendly & helpful staff, and very family oriented. The only complaint I would have is the lack of food choices in their buffet. All around its always a good visit.

Good food, Fried Chicken was delicious. Brisket was delicious. Tri-tip was good. The deserts would be even better if they had ice cream.

Contracted the liberty hall for our 30th anniversary and it was perfect. Special thank you to Kasey who is very nice and made it look easy, also she is very professional. We highly recommend it. All of our guest complimented the food and the set up they all said it was beautiful. I will definitely keep them in mind for future life events. :D

Over 30 years ago, the CSUB coaches took me here for dinner on my recruiting trip. I love Hodels! The food is amazing. Service is great. I still eat here regularly over 30 years later.

Good place to relax and unwind. There was quick, helpful, and friendly service. Bring your hunger - portions are large.

Nice meeting rooms. The food is pretty good I was surprised it just needs a little seasoning but still good. I dont know how it is at dinner but this place gets pretty packed for lunch.

I have always loved Hodel's. I went there last week after not being there for a few months and it really fell short. When going to the salad bar most of the containers where 2/3 or more gone and there was no staff filling them. There was hardly enough salad greens to make one salad with. I tried some of the regular food and that also fell short. I usually love their cinnamon rolls and I ordered myself a tin and I have found them dry with not as much frosting as they usually have on them. I hope they can get their people back into the swing of things.

Very homey buffet, like moms house. Tons of selection, affordable, staff is on point, food was fresh and we'll prepared. We will definitely be back.

Food is very delicious and like homemade. Country style and very relaxing place. It's a very nice buffet with reasonable price. Very Kids friendly and infact the kids like every thing in here. If you're traveling from northern California, make it a your lunch stop.

Have to pay separate for dessert and drinks. Or you can just go with the soup and salad with free dessert

This has a cozy, rustic feel. The food is DELICIOUS!! Pot roast is moist and seasoned perfectly; the chicken pot pie makes you want seconds; the mac and cheese tastes homemade (nothing like the boxed kind 😁); and the dessert options are plentiful and scrumptious. (There's chocolate and vanilla ice cream, you just have to ask for it.) Customer service is friendly and pleasant. This place is definitely a go-to for my family when we visit Bakersfield!

Entered near ten, it was not crowded. The prices are fair for the quality of food. Reminds me of a cafe in Chicago I loved to visit.

The food is OK as is the service. If you come here and it is not busy expect to eat food that has been sitting around for awhile. Like any buffet, when it is busy the volume keeps the food circulated and therefore fresh. I think it is a decent place to feed large groups, as there is something for almost anybody. I think the salad station is a pretty sure bet for freshness and healthier eating. It is a clean place and the parking lot is large.

Usually when we go we have amazing service and we have never complained. Today we went in for lunch and our server ignored us for the most part. She never asked if we needed anything or if I needed a refill on my coffee or my gf's drink. We were talking for a good 30 to 45 minutes and our server only asked us what kind of drinks we wanted and brought us our check. That is all. When we were getting ready to leave, our plates that would normally be picked up by the server or the busser were still sitting on the side of the table, stacked. since we all work in the food industry so we clean after ourselves. The waitress went to pick up the dishes noticed us and then walked away without the dishes. I have never felt so hurt by a servers treatment of myself or my family. We will be returning because I refuse to let a server keep me from an establishment I enjoy. Hopefully we do not get her again.
